Long Island based artist, Niky Vespia, takes visual paths to manifest her strange views, ideologies, and imagination through an eclectic usage of mediums. Taught how to paint by her grandmother at the age of three, Nicole, has been enamored with every medium and form of multimedia visual art. Nicole’s art has always been a combination of nature and heavy pagan influence but none more than her wood burning, in which she utilizes a lot of drift wood and slabs. Her paintings and drawings range more from realistically monstrous to cartoon and deep illustration. Regardless of the medium, influence or content, Nicole finds a way to warp it into her own idea of reality.
Currently a stay at home mom, Nicole works one to two days a week at a locally owned vintage store, Deep End of the Sandbox in Lake Ronkonkoma. Here she displays and sells her art, from wood burnings and paintings to painted flower pots and sculptures. On the vending off seasons you can find her preparing for Honest VegFest! **elbow nudge** .. When she’s not at work or preparing her newest piece, Nicole likes to teach her toddler the vastness of art and its connection to nature. Always utilizing nature for her art even as a child, she likes to show her daughter, Rheya, the importance of respecting nature and to appreciate its influence and the smalls gifts it has to offer. Like most children, Rae enjoys painting on rocks and leafs.
Though she does bounce around from medium to medium, Niky's most lucrative avenue is her painted and drawn recreations of 90’s and early 00’s cartoons. She has several series all ranging from cartoons she found influential throughout her childhood. This series is only seconded by her Zodiac spoons and kitchen spoons. Each spoon takes anywhere from three to seven hours to make and no two are the same. Each one is individually hand burned, sealed(with all natural organic oil) and specially tagged with a hand written Zodiac info card.
